This book focuses a lot more on the doll and Addison’s sister, in fact making them one of the main focal points in the book. However, Addison is also dealing with some weird things involving her little sister and the creepy doll that talks to her that we learned about in the first book. When Don Jae tracks down Addison to talk to her about the Spill Zone, the two of them find themselves partnering to figure out what is going on, and why things in the Spill Zone have been way more active as of late. In this book, we learn that his name is Don Jae, and he is from North Korea, where they had their own Spill Zone incident. In the first book, we were briefly introduced to a new character who seems to possess strange and unique abilities, but we don’t learn much about him. The main character, Addison, goes into the Spill Zone to take photographs, which she sells to collectors for money so she can support her little sister, because their parents were killed in the Spill Zone disaster. If you remember from Spill Zone, a huge spill at the nuclear plant caused a whole bunch of weird stuff to happen – ghosts, weird creatures and sounds, etc. The artwork is so incredibly drawn and exciting, colorful, and full of life, and the story? The story was so good. I honestly thought they were a bit more disturbing in this book, but I loved every page. If you read Spill Zone, you know that there are some really weird, creepy elements to the story, including the illustrations in the book.

Spill Zone: The Broken Vow picks up right where Spill Zone left off, which was exciting.

I waited and waited and it finally got released and I am thrilled to have the chance to share my thoughts with you! Spill Zone ended on quite the cliffhanger, and I can’t remember the last time I was as excited for a book like I was for Spill Zone: The Broken Vow. It was one of the first graphic novels that I had really gotten into, and truth be told, it sparked my obsession with graphic novels – I now read them whenever I can and I feel like I can’t get enough of them. Last year I read and reviewed the first book in this amazingly fun duolog, Spill Zone.
